DO YOU KNOW THIS CHARACTER?
GANDALF from The Lord of the Rings
Yes, I know them.
I've only heard of them.
No, I don't know them at all.

Pirates being exempt from the "its unrealistic to have disabled people in [insert fantasy/historic setting here]" argument will never not be just a little funny to me for the sheer obsurdity of it. Like, no, there's no way a guy who lost his leg would survive in this setting!! It's so silly and immersion breaking to even consider it!!! Oh, what's that? He says "yarrrr" a lot, has a pet bird, and lives on a boat? Oh well, never mind then, that's not a disability anymore, obviously!
Do you know how hard it is to walk with even modern prosthetics on boats, let alone with what's essentialy a glorified chair leg tied to your body?? I can say from experience it's very, very difficult. Walking with a peg leg in general, is also very difficult, also speaking from experience lol.
I do realise this wasn't really the point of the post, but it made me think about this, lol
[Origonal post ID: a woman dressed as a pirate with an eye patch, peg leg and hook hand is talking to a man at a bar. The man is dressed in what appear to be modern clothes. The woman's speech bubble reads "It seems to make people less uncomfortable with my disabilities." /end ID]
Bizarro is always on point.
so this happened last night amd i was too tired to process how bizzare this was b ut
yeah. it is your bad.

no lie this picture is fucking breaking my heart. the teenager who made this way back when really went for the throat with the tagline "where everyone is happy". No "where you can fangirl freely" not even a melodramtic "where the strange and wonderful can meet in peace". Not a single reference to the tumblr culture of the time. Just the most primal, gut wrenching urge of an awkward high school student to long for a place where not only they, but also everyone else can simply be happy. I hope you found your happiness random blogger, wherever you are.
going to work 😌
the extremely ominous part in the middle where he picked up a hammer and just held it for a minute like he was threatening the car into compliance

Unless you were a tech at NASA back in the day, when one time some hydrogen a) escaped in a particular building, and b) caught on fire. This was extremely difficult because hydrogen does NOT burn on the visible spectrum humans evolved to see (and flee). Rather, it technically does, but it’s so pale that in practice, no one could see it. Additionally, pure hydrogen burns without smoke and with so little ambient heat that you can’t really sense it till you walk into it. So, per the lore, for a few days all the techs in that building just walked around brandishing brooms in front of them like lances. If your broom lit on fire, congrats! You have located more burning hydrogen! Do not proceed!
I work as a programmer for $35 an hour.
They once forgot to pay me for 8 extra hours that they needed me to work on Thanksgiving weekend. They simply needed me to be present for 8 hours in order to quickly fix any problems that happened during their busiest weekend, and no such problems ended up happening.
When they saw the mistake and paid me for it, the gross pay for that day was $420 (base of $35 x 8 hours x 1.5 for overtime).
The first thing I noticed was how that compared to what I got paid at my warehouse job before I became a programmer. When I started the job at the warehouse, I got paid $10 an hour. For a full time week, I got paid $400.
I got paid more for that one day of doing practically nothing as a programmer than I did busting my ass at the warehouse for a whole week.
So enough about this "I work harder than them so I deserve more pay" bullshit. You're all the working class. In our fucked up system, hard work does not equal more pay. If you want more pay, you need to fight back against the rich assholes who profit off your labor and pay you jack shit, not fight with other people who are underpaid about who deserves to be more underpaid.
